There is no set rule as to how you can utilize the services of HD interior design. We service many different types of clients. Some clients may hire us to do a basic colour consultation, where as some may want us to develop a complete concept and design package. No two projects are alike and therefore the design process will shrink or grow depending on the complexity of the project.
We love being involved from the inception of a project, but if you have already started the design process with an architect or your builder that’s great. We are not looking to reinvent the wheel! We work well as a team member and always recommend that our conceptual plans are formalized into working construction documents by a qualified architect or architectural designer.
If, for example, you are hiring us to design the conceptual layout and the complete finishes and fixture package for your new home, retail space or restaurant the design process will typically go forward like this:
Initial Concept Meeting
During these meetings we listen to you and gather the information that helps us formulate the conceptual direction of your project.
Depending on the project we will discuss issues like:
- Who are your customers or clientele?
- What is your lifestyle like? Are you casual or formal people?
- Do you have a concept already in mind?
- Do you have a favourite style, piece of furniture or colour in mind?
- What is the current and projected size of your business?
- Do you have children or pets?
- What are the basic functions each area will need to service?
- What are the circulation needs between each space?
- What are the various size requirements for each space?
- What are the various budget requirements?
- Are there timeframes we need to meet?

Conceptual and Schematic Design
After the initial concept meeting, we put our creative talents into gear and begin formulating the general design ideas relevant to your project.
We gather samples, create sketches and compile imagery that will help you see the potential of your project coming to life. Some ideas may be instant winners and other ideas may need to be reworked.
Once the overall conceptual direction has been determined, we begin to define the architectural aspects of the space. We experiment with room locations and circulation space and how it all flows together. We develop ideas for key architectural features and consider furnishing placements. We look at structural and decorative elements and consider how all of this will transform 3 dimensionally. We will also discuss general cost estimates in relation to the design.

Design development
During design development we fine tune the approved concept to date and define the specific details. We provide the “layers of information” that will make all aspects of the project complete. At this stage we also revisit budget requirements and provide cost saving alternatives when needed.
We work closely with the project architect giving attention to each specification and element of the space. This detailed information is then compiled into a set of design drawings by the architect and, upon approval, these drawings will be incorporated into the final set of construction documents.

quality control
During construction of the project we make visits to the job site and review the ongoing progress in order to ensure that installations are going according to plan.
We work with the architect and builder to resolve any unexpected issues that may arise. The ultimate goal is that upon completion of the project you are fully satisfied with the results.
